Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Kisoro & Volcano Viewpoint

Drive Time: ~9–10 hours from Kampala/Entebbe (or ~4–5 hours from Lake Bunyonyi) 

Activities:

  • Scenic Transfer to Kisoro via Kabale Depart early and travel southwest through Uganda’s highlands, passing tea plantations, lakes, and terraced hills. Stop for lunch in Kabale. Duration: Full-day transfer with breaks
  • Evening Volcano Viewpoint Visit Upon arrival, enjoy a short walk to a viewpoint overlooking the Virunga volcanoes, Muhabura, Gahinga, and Sabinyo. Duration: 1 hour

Accommodation: Budget Option: Amajambere Iwacu Community Camp / Traveller’s Rest Hotel

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga

Activities:

  • Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park After an early breakfast, head to Ntebeko Visitor Center for briefing. Trek through bamboo forest and montane terrain to find the Nyakagezi gorilla family. Spend one magical hour observing their behavior. Duration: 2–6 hours depending on gorilla location
  • Afternoon Rest or Optional Nature Walk Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. Optional guided walk to the Garama Cave or community craft shop. Duration: 1–2 hours (optional)

Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking & Batwa Cultural Trail

Activities:

  • Golden Monkey Tracking in Mgahinga Forest Join rangers for a morning trek to observe endangered golden monkeys leaping through bamboo thickets. Duration: 2–3 hours
  • Batwa Cultural Trail Experience Walk with Batwa guides through their ancestral forest, visiting sacred sites, learning survival skills, and enjoying traditional music and storytelling. Duration: 2 hours

Day 4: Volcano Hike or Community Visit

Activities:

  • Optional Volcano Hike (Mount Gahinga or Sabinyo) For active travelers, hike one of the Virunga volcanoes with a guide. Enjoy panoramic views and unique alpine vegetation. Duration: 4–6 hours (moderate to strenuous)

Day 5: Forest Reflection & Return Journey

Drive Time: ~9–10 hours to Kampala/Entebbe

  • Scenic Drive Back to Kampala or Entebbe Depart mid-morning, stopping for lunch and a photo opportunity at Lake Bunyonyi or the equator monument. Duration: Full-day transfer
